Taiwanese vocalist Tzuyu first rose to prominence in the 2010s and 2020s as one of nine members in the celebrated K-pop act Twice, where her soft vocals and elite stage presence helped drive repeated chart dominance across South Korea. Nearly ten years into that run, she stepped out on her own in 2024 with the September mini-album abouTZU.

Tzuyu, born Chou Tzu-yu in Tainan's East District, caught the eye of talent scouts at the city's Muse Performing Arts Workshop in 2012 after years of dance-academy instruction. She relocated to South Korea to train under JYP and broke through in 2015 on the survival program Sixteen; audience votes named her a favorite, securing her spot in the newly formed girl group Twice. The ensemble launched with the mini-album The Story Begins in October 2015 and quickly emerged as one of the decade's defining K-pop acts. Tzuyu supplied one of the group's gentler, sweeter timbres alongside flawless choreography, anchoring their worldwide reach. By 2024, Twice had claimed eleven number-one positions on the Korean Album Chart with releases such as Twicetagram and Formula of Love: O+T=<3, while scoring chart-topping singles including "What Is Love?," "Likey," and "TT." She also hosted segments on M! Countdown and Inkigayo and reinforced her standing as a role model by giving 50 million won to the South Korean Community Chest amid the 2020 COVID-19 crisis.

In August 2024 she confirmed plans for a solo career and previewed the project via the "aboutTZU Opening Trailer." The complete mini-album abouTZU arrived the following month, fronted by the lead single "Run Away."
