Puerto Rican rapper Yovngchimi blends Latin trap with drill, laying down resolute yet composed verses drawn from his life on the streets. Born as Angel Javier Aviles Monzón in San Juan, he spent a short time at college in California before heading back to Puerto Rico to launch his music career. The 2021 single “Glizzy Walk” marked his first release under the Yovngchimi name, quickly followed by cuts such as “ATL” and “Glizzy Walk 2.0,” which drew notice from artists including Myke Towers. His profile rose sharply on the strength of 2022 tracks like “Baby Father” and “Glizzy Walk 2.5,” the latter featuring Eladio Carrión, both also carrying Hydro. Additional 2022 collaborations arrived with Yeruza, Ñengo Flow, Anuel AA, and others. By 2023 the DJ Drama-hosted mixtape Gangsta Grillz: Mvrda Gvng had landed in May, alongside the Bad Bunny joint “Mercedes Carota,” while the full-length debut album WLGS closed out the year in December with appearances from Ozuna, French Montana, Tay Keith, and Lunay; earlier that rise also brought guest spots on records by J Balvin and Bad Bunny.
