Biography
The Parisian duo Basic Tape blend disco, house, and pop into a polished sound that echoes Daft Punk and Cassius. Sav Milot and Ben Emard first connected as classmates in the same study group at sound engineering college, later merging Emard’s command of guitar with Milot’s grasp of dance and pop forms. Their bootleg remixes of tracks by Lana Del Rey and Ellie Goulding, plus an official version of Alesso’s “Heroes,” built an online audience and led to a collaboration with Mozambo and Julia Church on the single “Bright Side.” Basic Tape unveiled their energetic first single, “Not Afraid,” near the end of 2015. In 2016 Emard and Milot joined Parlophone and delivered their follow-up, “So Good,” which included vocals from Danny Shah. The pair then worked with British singer Frances on the 2017 track “No Matter.”
