Bazart

The Belgian ensemble Bazart originated in Ghent during 2012 when vocalist Mathieu Terryn and guitarist Simon Nuytten laid its foundation. Bassist Tom Goovaerts, drummer Robbe Vekeman, and guitarist/keyboardist Oliver Symons soon rounded out the roster. Later that year the band issued its independently distributed opening EP, Meer Dan Ooit, which presented a blend of indie pop sung entirely in Flemish. After an extensive European tour and the substitution of Daan Schepers for Goovaerts on bass, Bazart delivered a self-titled second EP in 2015 containing the tracks “Tunnels” and “Goud,” both of which entered the Flemish Ultratop 50. The mid-2016 single “Chaos” likewise registered on the Ultratop 50 and paved the way for the group’s debut album, Echo, whose more pronounced electronic textures propelled it straight to number one on the Flemish Ultratop 200 upon release.
