Benita Jones has sustained a parallel career in contemporary gospel while holding successive church positions that range from praise and worship leader to pastor. A Stellar Awards nominee, she first reached the Billboard gospel Top Ten in 2004 with her debut release, Hold On, and has since maintained a steady recording schedule that produced The Word Remains in 2010, the EP The Evolution in 2018, and the live set The Entreating in 2020.

Born in Selma and formerly known as Benita Washington, Jones trained in voice performance at the University of Alabama. Recognition arrived when she claimed victory in the inaugural Gospel Dream contest staged by the Gospel Music Channel. After singing and recording alongside CeCe Winans, the solo career began with Hold On, which climbed to number six on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart. Jones later rejoined Winans’s circle as a background vocalist before assuming leadership duties at Nashville’s Mt. Zion Baptist Church, first as director of praise and worship and subsequently as general overseer of music and worship arts. Her second project, the live album Renaissance, was captured in Nashville and issued in 2007. Three years after The Word Remains, she shifted focus to mentoring worship leaders and teams, accepted pastoral responsibilities, and established evolveU Worship, yet still carved out space for new recordings. The 2018 EP The Evolution earned a Stellar Awards nomination for Contemporary Female Vocalist of the Year. Two years afterward she delivered another live recording, The Entreating, while serving as associate pastor at Atlanta’s All Nations Worship Assembly.
