Biography
Cochise, the Florida rapper, weaves an exuberant and unrestrained mix of trap, dancehall, and cloud rap, his buoyant vocals racing through playful lyrics laced with anime nods atop blurred production. Online traction from tracks including "Hatchback" and "Red Head" paved the way for his Columbia debut, the 2021 album Benbow Crescent, which was followed by The Inspection in 2022. The sharper EP No One's Nice to Me surfaced the next year, while WHY ALWAYS ME?, his third full-length, arrived in 2024.
Terrell Cox, born and raised in Palm Bay, Florida, to Jamaican parents, absorbed reggae early on and played drums in a church choir before taking up rapping during high school under the name Cochise, drawn from The Warriors. After several years posting material to SoundCloud, he issued the 2018 EP PULP and then Hijack, produced by Lousho, in 2019. Post-graduation singles "Hatchback" and "Redhead" introduced a lighter, higher-voiced delivery, both turning into viral successes that led to his 2020 Columbia signing and the label single "Taxin." Benbow Crescent appeared in 2021, incorporating those earlier cuts alongside "Knicks" and "SANJI." His collaboration with $not on "Tell Em" reached number 64 on the Billboard Hot 100 and received platinum certification. The Inspection followed in 2022, succeeded by standalone releases such as the TikTok-favored "Cook Up." No One's Nice to Me emerged in 2023, along with the EP Care Package, before WHY ALWAYS ME? arrived the subsequent year with guest spots from Veeze, Aminé, and Anycia.
