Biography
Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Comrades merges post-hardcore, post-rock, and Christian punk into a trio sound that juxtaposes atmospheric layers against abrasive clashes.
The husband-and-wife team of Joe on guitar alongside Laura McElroy on clean vocals and bass, plus Ben Trussell on drums and unclean vocals, formed the band in 2008 as an instrumental post-rock unit. Their first album, Safekeeper, surfaced in 2014 on Blood & Ink Records. A 2016 agreement with Facedown Records brought the second album, Lone/Grey. Trussell exited the following year to launch his solo project BJORN, opening the drum and vocal slot for John Gaskill, whose initial studio appearance arrived with 2019’s For We Are Not Yet, We Are Only Becoming.
