CreatiVets

Established in 2014, the nonprofit CreatiVets works to guide veterans through recovery from post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury by means of artistic practice.

Co-founder Richard Casper, an Iraq war veteran who had already experienced the relief creative work brought to his own PTSD, set out to give others the same opportunity to shape their memories into art and move toward calm. The group encourages multiple disciplines, among them sculpture, painting, and songwriting that channels the unfiltered intensity common to country and blues-rock. In 2020 it issued a collection of music created by veterans, titled Veteran Songs.
