Biography
Greg Bates, a vocalist, composer, and guitarist, came into the world and spent his early years in Nashville, Tennessee, long acknowledged as the epicenter of country music. Local songwriter rounds, charity events, and neighborhood dances surrounded him during childhood, allowing him to sharpen his abilities as both a tunesmith and performer until they meshed naturally with the city’s storied legacy. The new traditionalists of the 1990s—George Strait, Randy Travis, Alan Jackson, and Dwight Yoakam—shaped his approach while he completed a music-business degree at Belmont University, where he delivered his debut showcase during freshman year. By commencement, he was already conferring with publishers drawn to his material. A lifelong Music City native, Bates recognized the discipline and rewards of constructing strong songs, so he concentrated on that craft even as his vocal and stage skills matured into an appealing presence that built a loyal following and secured his first Grand Ole Opry appearance in April 2012. After signing with Republic Nashville, the Jimmy Ritchey-produced single “Did It for the Girl” reached radio that same month, with a full-length album—also produced by Ritchey—set to arrive soon after.
