Florida rapper Icy Narco assembled a frigid persona and trap sound by pulling from the most dangerous and mysterious aspects of assorted musical and cultural influences. Blue dreadlocks and neck tattoos formed part of the visual identity that accompanied tracks where cold, stuttering flows shifted into catchy melodic choruses. After issuing several singles and building a substantial cult following, he delivered his debut mixtape Winter Can Be Murder in 2019.
Born in 1998 and raised in Miami, Icy Narco reached the close of his teenage years by uploading an online remix of 21 Savage’s hit “Bank Account,” which promptly expanded his audience. He first appeared mainly as a featured artist on tracks by other rappers before issuing more material under his own name. The 2018 singles “LINK” and “Numb & Frozen” each generated millions of streams and introduced the rapper to large numbers of new listeners. Although operating within rap, his style wove pop hooks and a sinister undercurrent into darker rock and metal textures. Winter Can Be Murder gathered these tracks along with additional songs upon its 2019 release.
