Biography
Since 2009 the deathcore outfit In the Midst of Lions has fused Christian convictions with an intensely aggressive sonic approach while based in St. Louis, Missouri. Matt Janssen supplies vocals for the quintet, whose lineup also includes guitarists Sam Penner and Ryan McAllister, bassist Jake Mitchell, and drummer Alex Livingston; their output delivers a staggering, breakdown-dominated style infused with faith-based themes. Rapid momentum followed their formation as they inked a deal with Strike First Records to issue the debut full-length Out of Darkness that same year. Transitioning to Facedown Records in 2010 enabled the release of Heart of Man, after which they topped the bill for the imprint's Young and Wreckless Tour. Shadows arrived as their third LP in 2011, marking an entry onto the Billboard Heatseekers chart.
