Born in Demorest, Georgia, on December 30, 1988, John King approaches modern country music with an undercurrent of rock & roll drive and a focus on delivering high-energy performances. Raised in a home filled with music lovers, he developed an early appreciation for Southern rock acts including the Allman Brothers Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd, alongside classic rock groups such as AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. During his teenage years, Garth Brooks emerged as a key influence, prompting King to take up singing and guitar. As his instrumental skills progressed, he started composing original material; though his high school band emphasized rock & roll, his vocal style and songwriting increasingly gravitated toward country. Following graduation, he attended the University of Georgia as a music major. Outside of classes, he performed at area country clubs and secured opening slots for several established acts. His abilities and promotional efforts resulted in a 2012 publishing agreement with Black River Publishing, where he collaborated with A&R executive Doug Johnson. Black River offered him a recording contract the next year, leading to sessions for his debut album. The project’s first single, the 2014 release “Tonight Tonight,” an anthemic celebration of weekend freedom, climbed to number 39 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.
