JUDAH. serves as the stage name for Tennessee-based singer/songwriter Judah Akers, who rose to prominence during the 2010s as frontman of the alternative folk-pop outfit Judah & the Lion. Honoring the group’s foundational ties to contemporary Christian music, he issued his first solo outing, the praise & worship EP 7, in 2021.

The band originated in 2011 when Akers joined forces with mandolinist Brian Macdonald and banjo player Nate Zuercher. Although the trio initially operated within the Christian music circuit, their 2014 debut full-length, Kids These Days, marked a decisive shift toward a secular folk-pop approach and earned widespread critical notice. Mainstream breakthrough arrived two years later via the energetic sophomore album Folk Hop n' Roll, which yielded the hit singles “Take It All Back” and “Suit and Jacket.” The 2019 release Pep Talks, a deeply personal collection, also resonated with listeners and reached number 18 on the Billboard 200.

Beginning in 2020, Akers issued material under the mononym Judah. Composed amid the aftermath of a friend’s suicide, the songs reflected a renewed embrace of faith. These tracks, along with additional material, formed the 2021 EP 7, featuring appearances by Jon Foreman, Amanda Lindsey Cook, Jon Guerra, and Aodhan King.
