Biography
Kim Viera first drew attention in 2017 through her opening releases “Gold Lining” and “Tribe,” the latter contributed to the Pitch Perfect 3 soundtrack, establishing her early sound within buoyant dance-pop circles. By that point she had already supplied material for performers such as Lil Wayne and Sam Bailey, folding hip-hop rhythms and Caribbean textures into her initial offerings.
Raised in the Bronx, New York, Viera grew up in a household steeped in music; her mother provided backing vocals for Willie Colón and Rubén Blades, while her father launched a thriving live-production firm. She started performing as a child and, by fourteen, was already adding vocals to Christian recordings and commercial jingles. During her teenage years she also appeared in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Later she enrolled at Boston’s Berklee College of Music. Around the same time she began posting online renditions of songs by Bruno Mars and Rihanna, secured backup-singing slots on touring productions, and continued penning material for other acts.
Among her earliest collaborative compositions were the Summer Set’s 2013 track “Boomerang,” Lil Wayne’s 2014 cut “Start a Fire,” and Sam Bailey’s 2016 song “Forgive and Forget.” Midway through 2017 she fronted “TBT,” which featured Brooklyn rapper Maino, then issued her first official Republic Records single, “Gold Lining,” built around a sample of Lumidee’s 2003 chart success “Never Leave You (Uh Oooh, Uh Oooh).” That December she supplied the uplifting anthem “Tribe” for the Pitch Perfect 3 film. Of Puerto Rican heritage, she joined forces with Daddy Yankee on the 2018 release “Como.”
