Lancey Foux

Lancey Foux, the British rapper, built his reputation on a signature strain of hip-hop steeped in drill, trap, and R&B textures that feels both shadowy and introspective. His initial breakthrough came in 2015 via the simultaneous arrival of Pink and Teen Skum; the latter contained the locally resonant single “About It.” Modeling assignments soon accompanied wider notice generated by First Day at Nursery, a 2017 joint project with Nyge, followed by the 2018 releases Too Far Alive and Pink II. Friend or Foux appeared in 2019 and spotlighted the track “India,” while the Kaytranada-produced Life in Hell surfaced in 2022. Multiple mixtapes have punctuated his output, among them collaborations with Lil Yachty and 24kGoldn, and the 2023 installment Back2datrap featured a guest turn from Sexyy Red.

Born Lance O. Omal in Stratford, London, in 1995, Foux was raised in Plaistow, Newham, East London, within a family of Ugandan heritage. Hip-hop captured his attention during adolescence, prompting early experiments with freestyle rapping over beats sourced online. Pink served as his 2015 debut album, with Teen Skum following the same year; “About It” became its local catalyst after Foux performed it live at the SBTV Summer Cookout. Continued SoundCloud uploads preceded the 2017 collaborative album First Day at Nursery with producer Nyge.

Further refinement of his approach surfaced across the 2018 projects Too Far Alive and Pink II, the latter containing a Skepta appearance; the grime rapper subsequently joined Foux on tour that year. Friend or Foux again broadened his reach in 2019 through the song “India.” Modeling work for Trapstar, A-Cold-Wall, and Naomi Campbell’s 2019 Fashion for Relief Gala coincided with a sold-out headline debut at O2 Islington. Subsequent singles included “Poison” featuring Bakar, the Black Lives Matter statement “Time for War!,” and “Relax!” Mixtapes First Degree and Live.Evil both arrived in 2021, the latter incorporating verses from Lil Yachty and 24kGoldn. Life in Hell, Foux’s seventh album and featuring 070 Shake, landed in 2022 with production from Kaytranada. Back2datrap, issued the following year and produced by Bally, included a contribution from Sexyy Red.
