Atlanta native Ken Carson rose as a central force in the rage rap wave of the 2020s, building a devoted following through Playboi Carti’s Opium label. His pounding, synth-heavy productions, sharp-tongued vocals, and spiraling ad-libs shaped a style that progressed across early releases such as Project X in 2020 and Lost Files 3 in 2022, reaching a high point with the widely awaited third album A Great Chaos in 2023, later certified gold. A deluxe edition of A Great Chaos yielded the charting single “Overseas” in 2024, while “Delusional,” also released that year, led into his fourth project, the 2025 album More Chaos.

Born on Atlanta’s west side and relocated to the south side during childhood, rapper and producer Kenyatta Frazier, Jr. started crafting his own tracks at age 13 while navigating a difficult school environment. After linking with producer Lil88, nephew of Atlanta beatmaker TM88, he gained entry to the industry via 808Mafia studio sessions that exposed him to professional recording techniques and introduced him to key figures including Future and Young Thug. Adopting the name Ken Car$on, later simplified by dropping the dollar sign, Frazier dropped his debut single “32” during military school in 2016, followed by a series of now-removed loose tracks and his first live performance in 2017. An introduction to Playboi Carti at a TM88 session led Carson to become one of the earliest artists signed to the Opium imprint in 2019, establishing a partnership that would shape much of his trajectory.

Carson’s planned debut EP Boy Barbie was trimmed and reconfigured for its Opium release, shrinking from ten songs to six while adding guest appearances from Lil Yachty and Lancey Foux. Issued in May 2020, the project leaned on familiar bright loops and subtle Auto-Tune typical of current trap; his second EP, arriving just months afterward, signaled the arrival of his distinctive approach. Captured amid sessions for Carti’s Whole Lotta Red, the Teen X EP experimented with rougher vocal textures and darker beats supplied by Outtatown and Star Boy, yielding Carson’s breakthrough track, the siren-driven “Yale.” Driven by urgent synth lines and casual flows, the song quickly outlined his emerging signature, surpassing 200 million streams in the years following its release.

Additional EPs Lost Files, Teen X: Relapsed, and Lost Files 2 further solidified Carson’s sound through early 2021, paving the way for his first full-length project, Project X, which surfaced in July of that year. Filled with standout cuts such as “Rock N Roll,” “Run + Ran,” and “Hella,” the album thrust his bass-dominant, high-energy style into wider circulation through viral traction on digital platforms. A busy 2022 brought the EP Lost Files 3, featuring Destroy Lonely collaborations “Gang” and “Raver,” plus leaked tracks like “X for Breakfast” and “Aquafina” that spread online, along with the album X, which housed the major tracks “MDMA” and “Freestyle 2” and marked Carson’s first entry on the Billboard 200.

More leaks surfaced in 2023, joined by the Destroy Lonely track “Money & Sex,” heightening excitement for the third album A Great Chaos, which landed in October. Expanding on his core aesthetic with freer flows and inventive production, the release earned broad praise, spawned the singles “Fighting My Demons” and “Jennifer’s Body,” and opened at number 11 on the Billboard 200. In April 2024 Carson previewed a deluxe version of A Great Chaos with “Overseas,” which entered the Hot 100 and peaked at number 34 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop. That November he issued “Delusional” as the lead single for his fourth album, the 2025 sequel More Chaos.
