Rolf Sanchez, a Latin pop and tropical performer whose recordings regularly appear on the charts, hails from Amsterdam yet maintains his base in Miami, Florida. His tenor voice, marked by striking fluidity, moves with equal ease between salsa and urban idioms. Sanchez first entered public view as a finalist on Holland's X Factor, ultimately finishing third. Following Simon Cowell's counsel to record solely in Spanish, he obtained a Sony contract. The June 2015 single "Por No Te Vuelvo a Ver" reached the summit of the Tropical Songs chart; six months later "Que Se Siente" duplicated that accomplishment. Two years afterward, having become a prominent figure in videos and on tour, he secured a third consecutive chart-topper with "Vas a Entender." In 2018 the Farruko-assisted "Te Va a Doler" entered the Top 20, prompting Sanchez to issue a salsa version of the track.

Born in Amsterdam in 1991 to a Dutch father and a Dominican mother, Sanchez has spoken Dutch, Spanish, and English since early childhood. Music captivated him from the moment he could walk; exposure to classical, reggaeton, and numerous other styles during his youth led him to embrace urban and salsa forms, with Marc Anthony remaining his foremost influence. Throughout his teens he entered numerous local and regional contests, and in 2011, at age nineteen, he joined the Dutch edition of X Factor, whose grand prize was a major-label deal. Choosing Luis Enrique's "Yo No Se Mañana" to distinguish himself, he impressed both judges and viewers despite salsa and Latin pop being uncommon choices for Dutch listeners, and he concluded the competition in third place. The visibility gained during the show yielded further opportunities, among them a performance for the Queen of Amsterdam at Museumplein, selection as the face of Holland Heineken, sold-out Dutch tours, and an opening slot for Juan Luis Guerra at the country's largest music festival. That same year he released his first single, a Spanish-language interpretation of "Ave Maria."

Over the ensuing two years Sanchez cultivated an audience through social media and online videos, initially finding success in the Caribbean. He traveled to the Dominican Republic to join a tribute to composer Rafael Solano at the Premios Soberano awards. Early in 2015 he signed with the independent Latin Pulse Group; March brought his first U.S. chart appearance via "Por Si No Te Vuelvo a Ver," which received extensive airplay across the United States and Puerto Rico before reaching number one on both the Tropical Airplay and Tropical Songs charts. The release earned him a Premios Juventud nomination for Breakout Artist. In December he claimed a second chart-topper with "Que Se Siente," co-written by Sánchez, Guianko Gómez, and Efraín Dávila, while simultaneously receiving a 2016 Premio Lo Nuestro nomination for Breakthrough Artist of the Year.

These successes attracted major-label interest, leading Sanchez to sign with Sony Music Latin in February 2016. His fourth single, "Vas a Entender," again co-composed with Gómez and Dávila, appeared in October 2016 and became his third consecutive Tropical Airplay number one while also landing inside the Top 20 on the Tropical Songs chart. The following year "Paso a Paso" reached the Top 20, and the Farruko duet "Te Va a Doler" entered the Top 20 at Latin Pop; a salsa rendition of that song likewise charted inside the Top 20 the next year.
