Hailing from the Eastern Caribbean nation of St. Lucia, rapper Supa Dupa Humble relocated to New York during his early years and spent more than a decade working as a DJ prior to shifting focus toward lyric writing. A formative influence arrived via his mother, who was already based in New York while accumulating funds to bring her child to the United States; she mailed him a cassette of Busta Rhymes’ 1997 release When Disaster Strikes. The sudden infusion of unfiltered, high-intensity hip-hop into surroundings steeped in reggae and calypso left a lasting impression on the youngster. Once settled in New York, he began performing as a DJ under the moniker Supa Dupa, appending “Humble” only after he commenced self-production around 2016. His initial track “I’m Michael Jackson” quickly stirred online interest, which he converted into an expanding social-media following. In 2017 he issued the seven-song Humble Gardens EP, then released the singles “Too Busy” and “Big Daddy” later that same year. Early in 2018 Supa Dupa Humble entered a recording agreement with Roc Nation, after which the single and video “Steppin’” appeared.
