Early hits from Detroit rapper Teejayx6 revolved around precise, firsthand accounts of executing complex retail frauds and digital identity theft schemes. Emerging among several “scam rappers” from the city in the late 2010s, he paired tales of online crime with sharp wit and bleak humor on the 2019 mixtape The Swipe Lessons.

Teejay Witherspoon, born in Detroit in 2001, began rapping while still young. Southern artists such as Lil Wayne, Money Man, and Chief Keef shaped his sound, and when tracks started appearing around 2019 listeners detected echoes of Blueface’s off-beat delivery. Far more striking, however, were the minute details in his lyrics, which sometimes resembled step-by-step manuals for identity theft, credit-card fraud, and other tech-enabled cons. One standout track, “Dark Web,” guided listeners through the process of launching various computer-based scams and became among his best-known releases. He applied that same specialized approach across numerous songs that year, issuing the mixtapes Under Pressure, The Swipe Lessons, and Black Air Force Activity 1 in 2019. The single “Mosh Pit” followed in 2020.
