Sean Mulholland launched WorshipMob in Colorado Springs, Colorado, borrowing the concept of social-media-driven flash mobs and channeling that collective energy into worship music. Established in 2011, the project centered on a tight-knit team of musicians and prayer leaders who brought in 200 additional worshipers drawn from more than 30 area congregations for their recording sessions. Material reached audiences through uploads to video-sharing platforms, mixing original songs with renditions of tracks associated with Hillsong United and Jesus Culture. Video footage of their mob-style gatherings had surpassed seven million views by 2014, yet the collective still lacked a formal release. Integrity Music filled that gap in 2015 by issuing the group’s first album, Carry the Fire.
