Alerta Zero

Alerta Zero, a regional Mexican ensemble performing in the duranguense style, incorporates the former lead vocalists from the Grammy-nominated Alacranes Musical. The octet, headquartered in Aurora, Illinois, immediately adjacent to Chicago’s duranguense epicenter, comprises ex-Alacranes Musical frontmen Memo Ibarra and Omar Sánchez together with Christian Rangel on keyboards, Chiro Rodriguez on drums, Pedro Celis on saxophone, Joel Rosales on saxophone, Andres Gutierrez, Jr. on tuba and charcheta, and Miguel Montero on tambora. Its sound closely echoes that of Alacranes Musical, the duranguense act responsible for multiple regional Mexican chart successes throughout the 2000s and whose 2008 release Tu Inspiración earned a Grammy nomination. Following that nomination, Ibarra and Sánchez departed to establish their own outfit. Alerta Zero issued its debut full-length album, Vivo en Tu Piel, via Fonovisa in 2011; the project reached the Top Five on the Regional Mexican Albums chart and yielded the single “Vaya con Dios.”
