Biography
Argentinean hardcore metal outfit A.N.I.M.A.L. came together in the early 1990s when guitarist Andrés Giménez, bassist Marcelo Corbalán, and drummer Anibal Aló first joined forces. The group’s name functions as an acronym for Acosados Nuestros Indios Murieron Al Luchar, a phrase rendered in English as “while being chased, our natives died fighting,” and it directly mirrors the lyrical focus on the violence and land seizure endured by South American indigenous peoples. The band’s first album appeared in 1993. One year later Martin Carrizo replaced founding drummer Anibal Aló for the sessions that produced Fin De Un Mundo Enfermo. Following a 1996 deal with Warner Music, the musicians relocated to the United States to record El Nuevo Camino Del Hombre, an album that earned gold certification in Argentina and led to subsequent tours across Mexico and North America. Drummer Andres Villanova entered the lineup in 1998, contributing to Poder Latino, whose track “Cinco Siglos Igual” was created in collaboration with singer/songwriter Leon Gieco. After the 1999 release of Usa Toda Tu Fuerza, Warner Music issued the band’s sixth album on June 26th, 2001.
