Biography
Eliana Printes emerged as one of the phenomena of Brazilian popular music in the late '90s after launching her career at age thirteen with performances in neighborhood bars across Manaus, Amazonas. Entry into the band Transcendental marked the first public hearings of her own compositions. She advanced to the finals of the television competition "A Mais Bela Voz do Brasil" (Brazil's Most Beautiful Voice) on Show Sem Limite and shared bills with composers Beto Guedes and Cláudio Nucci ahead of issuing her debut album, Eliana Printes (1994), which the Sharp Awards named MPB revelation of the year in 1995.
In 1998 she took part in the Novo Canto project on Rádio JB FM. Later that year her third album, O Próximo Beijo, yielded the radio favorites "Sobre o Tempo" and "Você e Eu," the latter climbing the national charts and prompting her move to Rio de Janeiro. TV Globo enlisted Printes in 2001 to record a theme written expressly for the soap opera Porto dos Milagres by Ivan Lins and Ronaldo Monteiro de Souza.
