Austin Millz crafts euphoric, shimmering dance music that fuses R&B, pop, and funk into a seamless whole. Early releases included the Cyclone EP in 2017 and the 2019 collaboration “Bad Behavior” with Remi Wolf, whose bright, strobe-like energy stood out. The 2021 Midas EP brought in Aluna alongside Teedra Moses, while earlier high-profile reworks of tracks by Mariah Carey, Nina Simone, and Chaka Khan set the stage for Breathwork, the 2023 EP that featured Alina Baraz and Estelle among its guests.

Born in Harlem, Millz drew heavy inspiration from Quincy Jones, the Neptunes, and Just Blaze. He began in hip-hop, placing beats on early-2010s mixtapes by Wale and Jim Jones. A 2015 remix of Brenmar’s “Don’t Want It” shifted him toward EDM-inflected trap, followed in 2016 by the mellow house cut “Limelite” featuring Anishka. Fool’s Gold issued the three-song Cyclone EP in 2017, a glossy blend of hip-hop, pop, and EDM. Millz later performed at Beyoncé’s Homecoming event during Coachella and dropped the 2019 singles “Broke Boy” with Claire Ridgely and “Bad Behavior” with Remi Wolf.

The 2021 Midas EP delivered a celebratory mix of R&B, rap, and house, spotlighting Aluna, Pell, Teedra Moses, BJ the Chicago Kid, and additional guests. Another Pell collaboration, “What’s Next,” arrived in 2022, the same year Millz issued official remixes of Mariah Carey’s “Always Be My Baby” and Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good.” He opened 2023 with the nu-disco rework “Nobody Khan (Ain’t Nobody),” built around the Chaka Khan original. Ultra Records then released the lush, summery Breathwork EP, which included vocal contributions from Sabrina Claudio, Estelle, Duckwrth, and others.
