Biography
Austin Snell forged a distinctive style by merging country music’s intimate narratives of small-town life with the aggressive thrust of hard-rock guitars, quickly establishing himself as a rising figure in Nashville. Within just a few years of purchasing his initial guitar, homemade performance clips posted online cultivated a dedicated audience, while his debut professional track, “Excuse the Mess,” surpassed one million streams during its opening week. The seven-song Muddy Water Rockstar EP arrived with an expanded, more powerful sound that highlighted his rugged rock leanings yet kept the emotional weight of the lyrics intact. Anchored by the hit single “Pray All the Way Home,” his first full-length album, Still Bleeding, reached listeners in 2024.
Born November 5, 1997, in Dublin, Georgia, Snell grew up with a father devoted to modern rock and a mother partial to new traditionalist country sounds. Interest in go-kart racing meant countless hours riding in the family pickup between events, during which the only available discs—Creed, Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, and Alan Jackson—shaped his musical outlook. He did not begin creating his own material until enlisting in the Air Force after high school. Feeling homesick and restless, he acquired an inexpensive acoustic guitar and learned to play by ear during downtime, replicating songs he loved. A breakup prompted him to write the original piece “Live It Right,” which he shared online after already posting covers of popular tracks; the encouraging reactions spurred him onward.
Upon completing his military service, Snell returned to Georgia intending to head to Nashville at the first opportunity. Those plans paused when a tumor on his spine was discovered, necessitating surgery and recovery. The procedure took place in February 2022, and three months later, cleared by his physicians, he relocated to Music City—only five years after first picking up a guitar. Teaming with songwriters Presley Aaron and Christian Yancey, he co-wrote “Excuse the Mess,” a narrative of drinking and heartbreak driven by layers of distorted guitar. The track amassed seven-figure streams within its first week online. Subsequent releases—“Get There First” and a heavier rendition of Cassadee Pope’s “Wasting All These Tears”—prompted major labels to pursue him.
Warner Music Nashville signed Snell, and the Muddy Water Rockstar EP, featuring “Pray All the Way Home,” appeared in September 2023. With label support and a charting single secured, he issued the follow-up tracks “Everybody’s Friend” and “Wildfire” to generate momentum for his debut album, Still Bleeding, which arrived in June 2024.
