Biography
In 2023 Argentine bassist Aldana Aguirre assembled the Latin pop trio Darumas, enlisting American-Cuban guitarist and vocalist Ceci León together with Haiti-born, Chile-based lead singer Vedala Vilmond. Having built a career as a session musician alongside Karol G, Luis Fonsi, and additional artists, Aguirre created the group expressly to present her own compositions. After completing the songs she sought out compatible female collaborators and established an immediate rapport with León and Vilmond. United in the aim of diverging from the urbano mainstream dominating current Latin music, the three musicians shaped a style rooted in the groovy old-school funk, R&B, and retro pop associated with figures such as Bruno Mars and Michael Jackson. Under a Sony Music contract the band issued its debut single “Daruma” in May 2024, followed one month later by the seven-track EP Darumas.
