Biography
Steeped in classic country traditions alongside modern pop sensibilities and earthy Southern rock textures, Ella Langley’s compositions highlight her candid approach to songcraft and a voice that balances raw edge with smooth warmth. After achieving success through tracks such as the 2022 single “Damn You,” the Alabama-raised performer also supplied Elle King with the equally candid “Out Yonder.” Her standout 2023 featured the arrival of the EP Excuse the Mess—containing the tracks “Country Boy’s Dream Girl” and “That’s Why We Fight (featuring Koe Wetzel)”—alongside the Tanner Usrey collaboration “Beautiful Lies” and her first appearance on the Grand Ole Opry stage, paving the way for the August 2024 unveiling of her liquor-tinged debut full-length, the Billboard 200-charting hungover, which introduced her Hot 100 Top 40 breakthrough “You Look Like You Love Me (featuring Riley Green).”
Born into a household alive with music in Hope Hull, she gravitated early toward the storytelling craft of Willie Nelson and Stevie Nicks; as time passed, the modern outlaw sounds of Chris Stapleton and Jamey Johnson drew her in, prompting her to begin sharing personal narratives of existence, romance, and heartache before audiences throughout Montgomery and Auburn.
Langley shifted to Nashville in 2019 to focus fully on her career, quickly cultivating an online audience through the 2021 release “If You Have To” and the 2022 track “Damn You,” each accumulating tens of millions of streams. She contributed five songs to Elle King’s 2022 album Come Get Your Wife, among them the popular “Out Yonder,” before scoring her own success that year with “Country Boy’s Dream Girl.” Early 2023 brought her Grand Ole Opry debut, followed months later by the May arrival of Excuse the Mess on SAWGOD Records/Columbia, an effort that drew widespread acclaim and hundreds of millions of streams. That November she joined Tanner Usrey on the duet “Beautiful Lies.” Throughout 2024 she shared bills with Riley Green, Hardy, and Morgan Wallen while joining Kameron Marlowe on the modest country success “Strangers.” Green also appeared on her single “You Look Like You Love Me,” which climbed to number 13 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart before reaching number 36 on the Hot 100. The cut anchored her debut album, hungover, issued in August and shaped by producer Will Bundy (Drew Green, Graham Barham); the project entered the country Top 20, bowed at number 77 on the Billboard 200, and peaked at number 68 in Canada.
