Biography
Creating intricate and high-energy electronic dance music from his Paris base, producer Herve Pagez fuses moombahton, trap, and baile funk influences with pronounced pop leanings. Although he issued a steady stream of material across the 2010s, broader notice arrived in 2019 through his collaboration with Diplo and Charli XCX on the single “Spicy.”
Pagez first experimented with EDM production as a teenager in Guadeloupe, working from his bedroom. In 2012, Laidback Luke encountered some of those early demos, resulting in a signing to Mixmash. Several tracks appeared on the label’s Ones to Watch series, among them 2014’s “Yo Ready” and 2015’s “This Way” featuring Juyen Sebulba. The same year also saw “Git Up,” a joint release with Kandy, issued by Tommie Sunshine’s Brooklyn Fire imprint. Pagez performed at Tomorrowland in 2016 and followed with further singles such as “Bangit” in 2017 and “Fineapple” in 2018.
The 2019 partnership with Diplo and Charli XCX produced “Spicy,” a reworking of the Spice Girls’ 1996 breakthrough single “Wannabe.” The Mad Decent release, accompanied by a colorful, futuristic video, reached number 18 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart and registered strong placements in Sweden and New Zealand.
