South Florida’s Honcho da Savage fuses heartfelt vocals with trap-rooted rhymes in a manner recalling Ty Dolla $ign, Post Malone, and Lil Yachty. As a youngster he gravitated toward rock bands such as Green Day and Nirvana while sharpening his voice through repeated sing-alongs to tracks by Nickelback, Lifehouse, and Edwin McCain. Alongside his 2017 joint effort “Misfit” with Smooky MarGielaa, Honcho issued his first self-titled mixtape, which contained guest spots from Lucas Coly, Caskey, Yung Pinch, and John Wicks. The project also housed the introspective acoustic-guitar number “I Am,” spotlighting his melodic side. He revisited that approach on “Devil” in 2018; the song surfaced on his next release, Parallel Universe, which further featured the single “Blockbusta.”
