Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, the self-taught musician Lonr., born Elijah Dias, first entered the industry through collaborations with emerging R&B artist H.E.R. Those efforts earned him a pair of Grammy nominations, after which he launched his solo career in late 2019 via the singles “A.M.” and “Safe Zone.” The tracks merged the croon-rap approach of artists such as Post Malone with straightforward R&B sensibilities, favoring lovestruck and braggadocious themes over breezy trap beats. Early the following year he reunited with H.E.R. for the track “Make the Most,” then issued his debut EP, Land of Nothing Real, in April. The project showcased an eclectic range spanning hip-hop, pop, punk, rock, and R&B. He sustained that boundary-pushing momentum with the equally wide-ranging sequel Land of Nothing Real 2 in 2021.
