Biography
Baltimore trio Skyward Story originated under the pop punk banner of 3PM, shifting course in the mid-2010s toward a pop-centric approach that revived the early-2000s crossover sound blending punk energy with mainstream appeal. Their style merged the accessible polish of the All-American Rejects, 5 Seconds of Summer, and One Direction, prompting a series of singles meant to reconnect with listeners ahead of the 2019 full-length debut Reborn.
The Warped-friendly 3PM issued two Green Day-inspired releases in 2013 and 2014, after which drummer Brandon Millman and guitarist Scott Montgomery dissolved the project and began seeking a vocalist for fresh material. The addition of singer Aaron O'Connor completed the lineup now operating as Skyward Story. Emphasizing the pop side of pop-punk, the group produced upbeat singalong anthems that mirrored the most radio-friendly work from Jimmy Eat World and the All-American Rejects. They further explored pop territory through covers of Top 40 tracks including Hailee Steinfeld's "Starving," the Chainsmokers' "Closer," and Panic at the Disco's "Death of a Bachelor."
Skyward Story unveiled "Hey!" in 2017 as their initial official single. Additional singles and covers occupied the band throughout the next year. In January 2019 they delivered the fittingly named Reborn, which entered the Top 20 on Billboard's Alternative and Independent charts.
