Biography
Emerging from Houston while still enrolled in high school, Trill Sammy joined the cohort of millennial rappers who harnessed social media to circulate their material. The 2015 upload of his brief freestyle “Netflix and Chill,” recorded with Born Stunna, rapidly circulated among nearby listeners and allowed him to grow an online audience. Adopting an Atlanta trap style reminiscent of Lil Uzi Vert and Migos, the young Texan aimed to direct attention toward his city. His earliest notable exposure arrived that same year through the joint recording “Just Watch” with fellow Houston rapper Dice Soho, leader of the local Icey Gang crew. Sammy issued “Check Out” in 2016, a laid-back trap cut built on video-game samples, Auto-Tune, and a beat in the vein of Desiigner. His debut EP, Red Album, appeared later that year and included Soulja Boy on “Trappin’” as well as guest spots from Slim Thug and Kirko Bangz. That summer he released the Trappin’ EP, which featured the tracks “Uber Everywhere” and “Martin.” In 2018 he unveiled the singles “Do Not Disturb” and “Feel Better,” the latter featuring Rae Sremmurd’s Slim Jxmmi.
