Biography
Bailey Zimmerman possesses a raspy, gravel-etched voice that situates him between heartland rock and brooding, burly contemporary country. His straightforward arrangements mirror the working-class environment of his small-town Illinois upbringing, while his preference for slow-moving minor chords—first heard on the 2022 breakthrough single “Fall in Love” and its follow-up “Rock and a Hard Place”—echoes the approach of Jason Aldean and Cole Swindell, an affinity that surfaced on his debut full-length, Religiously. The Album., issued in May 2023. In 2024 he previewed a second album via the Top 20 Hot Country Songs single “Holy Smokes.”
Born in Louisville, Illinois, Bailey Zimmerman is the son of a trucking business owner. He absorbed the country records favored by his father and the hard rock favored by his mother. At age 16 he began working at a meat processing plant, the initial entry in a string of blue-collar positions. During off-hours he poured his direct sensibility into rock-inflected country songs that gradually built an audience through online platforms and social media.
“Never Comin’ Home” served as his debut single in 2021, with “Small Town Crazy” arriving before year’s end. Early 2022 brought the viral success of “Fall in Love,” prompting Warner Music Nashville to sign him that April. “Rock and a Hard Place,” simultaneously issued on a matching EP, came next. “Where It Ends” and “Never Leave” preceded the October 2022 arrival of Leave the Light On, an EP that collected his recent singles. “Where It Ends,” “Rock and a Hard Place,” and “Fall in Love” also formed the core of Religiously. The Album., which reached the Top Ten on both the Top Country Albums and Billboard 200 charts after its May 2023 release. February 2024 saw “Holy Smokes” peak at number 13 on Hot Country Songs as the first single from his sophomore project, followed by the October arrival of a second single, “Holding On.”
