Producer/vocalist Jesse Baez applies an inventive perspective and inquisitive outlook to his Spanish-language R&B material. His 2016 debut EP leaned into a detached, minimalist strain of atmospheric R&B, yet a series of collaborative singles that appeared over the following years signaled a shift in direction. The 2018 tracks “Mi No Eres Tu,” which featured C. Tangana, and “Mientu,” which featured Paty Cantú, moved toward darker territory through trap beats and denser production; those releases paved the way for the more expansive projects that came afterward, among them the 2024 full-length Henry.

Jesse Baez was born in Chicago and relocated to Guatemala at age six. While active in the band Easy Easy and working with associates such as vocalist Girl Ultra, he also developed solo material. The 2016 release B.A.E.Z. found the singer/producer exploring moody, loping R&B textures and enlisting like-minded contributors Teen Flirt and MONVCO on several tracks. Although the entire project was performed in Spanish, Baez continued to sing in English on other occasions. For his debut full-length, he folded heavier trap rhythms and rap undercurrents into the sound, enlisting rappers and producers including Dillon Francis and Fuego; the resulting EP, Turbo, appeared in summer 2018 on Universal. Additional singles and EPs preceded the arrival of his debut full-length studio album, Amor en Español, in 2022. That record strengthened his standing on the global R&B landscape and included a guest appearance by Alvaro Diaz. Over the course of the next year Baez concentrated on singles and joint efforts with Dani Ribba, Little Jesus, and others. In November 2024 he issued his second LP, Henry, which explored varied production and songwriting methods and featured the standout track “Persona Favorita” with LATIN MAFIA.
