Originally performing as Rixton, the lively British quartet that fuses pop, rock, and R&B took the name Push Baby in 2019 following four years away from the spotlight. The group came together in 2012, yet it was their 2014 debut single “Me and My Broken Heart” that propelled them to global attention. Shortly after the name change they delivered the EP Woah, then issued their first album-length project, Wow, Big Legend, in 2021.

Their profile first rose in 2013 through a popular YouTube channel showcasing covers of songs by Taylor Swift, R. Kelly, Rita Ora, and Chris Brown. Drawing comparisons to Maroon 5, Bruno Mars, and Ed Sheeran, the Manchester-formed lineup featured lead singer and rhythm guitarist Jake Roche, bassist/keyboardist and backing vocalist Danny Wilkin, lead guitarist and backing vocalist Charley Bagnall, and drummer Lewi Morgan. After aligning with manager Scooter Braun—whose clients have included Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, and Kanye West—the band made its U.S. bow in March 2014 via the Interscope release Me and My Broken Heart EP, with plans announced for a full-length later that year. Rixton resurfaced in 2015 with the debut album Let the Road, which contained the hit singles “Wait on Me” and “Hotel Ceiling”; the record reached number 19 on the U.K. Albums chart before Interscope ended the partnership later that same year.

Unhappy with their public image, the musicians opted to reinvent themselves and resurfaced in 2019 as Push Baby. Seeking greater lyrical candor while preserving the anthemic, dance-inflected R&B style that had defined their earlier work, they released the single “Mama’s House” in April 2019 and followed it with the six-track Woah EP. By 2021 the lineup had narrowed to the duo of Roche and Bagnall, who delivered their first Republic album, Wow, Big Legend.
