Argentinean pop/rock outfit Virus originated in the early 1980s when members of the recently dissolved Marabunta and los Violetas pooled their efforts to launch a fresh endeavor first called Duro; the project adopted the Virus moniker in 1981. Laura Gallegos, the initial singer, stepped aside that year for Federico Moura, after which the band issued its debut album Wadu Wadu. Early reception faulted Virus for leaning too heavily into pop while steering clear of the overtly political and socially charged themes then common among peers. Recrudece appeared in 1982, with Agujero Interior arriving the next year under the production of Danny and Michel Payronel, who preserved the group’s existing sonic approach unchanged. Ricardo Serra exited in 1984, yielding his spot to Daniel Sbarra, and Relax came out the same year. Relocating to New York in 1985, the musicians cut Locura, which contained the hit single “Una Luna De Miel En La Mano.” Three well-received concerts at Buenos Aires’ Obras Sanitarias preceded tours across Argentina, Peru, and Chile. During the subsequent sessions for Superficies De Placer in Brazil, news surfaced that frontman Federico Moura had tested HIV positive; he died on 21 December 1988. Following the release of Tierra Del Fuego, the remaining members performed one final show as openers for Bryan Adams and David Bowie in September 1990. Under the leadership of Marcelo and Julio Moura, Virus resurfaced in 1998 with Nueve and continued in 2000 by issuing Obras Cumbres.
