Hero

Formed in 1984 within the modest confines of Kalundborg, the Danish hard rock outfit Hero quickly rose from local favorites to national prominence, bolstered by its aggressive yet melodic approach. Guitarists Johnny Thomas and Peter Fernando, vocalist Steen Larsen, drummer Michael Fast, keyboardist Bo Brinck, and bassist Rik Jensen comprised the lineup, which soon shared bills in Copenhagen alongside Nazareth and Cinderella. After signing with Vertigo in 1986, the group entered the studio under producer Nils Henriksen and emerged with a self-titled debut that aligned closely with the NWOBHM-driven hard rock style of Def Leppard, TNT, and fellow Danes Pretty Maids. The album garnered praise both domestically and internationally, yet its trajectory was halted by the 1987 suicide of frontman Steen Larsen. Replacement vocalist Kenny Lübcke was brought in, but the band chose to disband the next year after releasing only that single acclaimed LP.
