Louisiana rapper OBN Jay crafts bold, resolute verses drawn from personal hardships and future goals. Recognition arrived in the late 2010s through tracks such as “Big Ole” and “Chess Not Checkers,” along with joint efforts alongside Quando Rondo and JayDaYoungan, before he issued full projects No Commercial Breaks in 2020 and Lit Rocket in 2024.

Raised in Baton Rouge amid frequent crime and violence, OBN Jay drew early motivation from 2Pac and Boosie Badazz. He began writing rhymes as a child and posted material online while still attending high school. In 2018 he dropped songs including “Stop Playing,” “How That Go,” and “Big Ole” featuring JayDaYoungan, plus the EPs Lost Hope and OBN and the mixtape Logic Real Talk. The following year brought further singles “Chess Not Checkers” and “Tragic Story,” as well as the mixtapes No Weakness and Life at 19. No Commercial Breaks appeared in 2020 and included guest spots from Jackboy and King Von. I’m Him followed in 2021, showcasing Money Man on the cut “Galore.” The EP Astray surfaced in 2022, Unchained arrived in 2023, and Lit Rocket, featuring Hunxho and DeJ Loaf, landed in 2024.
