Biography
In the middle of the 2010s, MCs Shordie Shordie and PDM Purp came together to establish the Baltimore rap duo Peso Da Mafia. Having grown up amid the dangers of Northeast Baltimore's toughest areas, the pair focused their initial tracks on narrative verses depicting turbulent urban existence, blending melodic elements with abrupt rhythmic patterns in their vocal approach. Recognition first came their way during the summer of 2016 thanks to the distinctive track "Pray on My Knees," which built gradually from sparse beats and an infectious refrain before erupting into an intense conclusion. Capitalizing on that track's traction, the group put out the What Matters Most mixtape toward the end of the same year. In the spring that followed, "Money Man" triggered a popular dance trend throughout Baltimore, propelling the song to local prominence while its video amassed more than two million views. By this point recognized both locally and on a broader scale, Peso Da Mafia issued "Look at Me" as their subsequent single in September 2017. June 2018 saw the arrival of the trio's debut album Never a Drought.
