The Swon Brothers

The Swon Brothers emerged from Oklahoma as a country act fusing contemporary styles with classic rock elements alongside sibling vocal harmonies. The pair transitioned from family-band origins to wider recognition in country circles. Zach Swon was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, on February 21, 1985, in the same community where a young Carrie Underwood lived nearby, with his brother Colton Swon arriving on August 17, 1988. Their parents directed the gospel ensemble Exodus, separate from the thrash metal band of identical name, and the brothers joined weekend church performances as children, developing an affinity for the touring lifestyle. Zach displayed an inborn aptitude on drums and joined the rhythm section at age ten, while Colton distinguished himself as a vocalist.

Exodus paused in 1995 when the parents formed the family variety program The Westwood Music Show, in which both brothers participated; Colton delivered tributes to Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson, and Zach moved from the drum kit to impersonate Elvis Presley. Those experiences prompted Zach and Colton to form their country duo in 2000. They auditioned for American Idol in 2007. The independent album Another Day appeared in 2009, followed by the 2012 independent release Set List.

In 2013 a friend invited them to an audition for The Voice, resulting in their selection for season four. Their performance of Tom Petty's "American Girl" elicited chair turns from Usher, Shakira, and Blake Shelton; coached by Shelton, they finished third. Visibility from the show secured a deal with Arista Records, which issued the duo's self-titled album in October 2014. The single "Later On" earned airplay on country radio and reached number 21 on the Country Singles chart. Commercial results for the album proved modest, however, and disagreements arose with the label concerning subsequent steps. Arista and the Swon Brothers ended their association in 2015, returning full control of recordings to the duo.

The six-song, self-released EP Timeless followed in 2016, after which the brothers resumed touring, including several opening dates for Carrie Underwood.
