Towards the close of the 1980s, Mexican alternative outfit Víctimas del Doctor Cerebro launched its career under the Tecnopal banner, guided by El Chipotle and El Abulón. The arrival of drummer El Bruja and guitarist El Destroyer prompted a name change, after which the ensemble quickly captured its debut album, titled Tecnopal. Securing a contract with EMI Latin, the collective then shifted operations to California to track its next release. Issued in 1993, that self-titled set contained the track "El Esqueleto," Víctimas del Doctor Cerebro's first hit single, whose video received steady rotation on MTV Latino. Once El Stoneface replaced El Destroyer and El Ranas came aboard, the band gained notice for its compelling stage presence, delivering theatrical productions that featured dance and pyromania. Brujerías appeared in 1995, succeeded by Boutique 2000 in 1997.
