Born in 1990 in Douglas, Georgia, Keenan Webb launched his career under the name DJ Suede, later also billed as DJ Suede the Remix God. From age twelve onward he devoted free hours to crafting beats and remixes, continuing the practice through his college years. Once his studies ended, his Vine presence drew wider attention, culminating in a breakout clip that paired a trap treatment of the iPhone 6’s stock ringtone with posts across his other platforms. That success established a pattern: each new reinterpretation of everyday audio or pop-culture moments expanded his audience further. In fall 2016 another clip detonated online after he grafted a pounding trap rhythm onto gospel singer Shirley Caesar’s “Hold My Mule,” titling the result “U Name It.” The track spread at such velocity that it ignited a self-perpetuating challenge in which users and celebrities kept reworking the already-remixed original. While Suede’s team conferred with Caesar about sample clearance, the parties never reached terms; the song appeared anyway and prompted Caesar to threaten litigation. Early the next year Suede scored a Billboard Hot 100 entry at number 88 with a trap reconstruction of the “Cash Me Outside” meme, built from footage of a teenager’s exchange with the studio audience on Dr. Phil and centered on the phrase “Cash me outside, how bow dah?”
