Global Dan emerged from Silver Springs, Maryland, where he absorbed the rap culture thriving across the wider D.C., Maryland, and Virginia corridor, building a style defined by memorable choruses and vigorous flows that brought him early notice. The 2017 single "Off-White" marked his breakthrough, securing widespread attention and opening doors to prominent features on later projects, among them the 2019 mixtape Global Meltdown.

Surrounded from childhood by the regional rap sounds, he began rapping himself during his late teens. Online song uploads started in 2016, with "Off-White" becoming his first track to resonate broadly; its title drew from the Italian fashion label, and the recording's momentum prompted an enthusiastic response from founder Virgil Abloh. Millions of streams followed, leading later that year to the release of his debut mixtape, Global Warming. Over time he shifted away from the boisterous attitude of his initial work toward more emotionally charged material. A 2018 remix of "Off-White" added verses from Rich the Kid and MadeinTYO, while the Lil Skies collaboration "Moving On" also appeared that year. Another 2018 track, "Dark Out," advanced his turn toward emo-inflected rap by incorporating a melodic hook performed by Global AzN, ultimately becoming his biggest success to date with tens of millions of streams. The song resurfaced on Global Meltdown, a 2019 mixtape that included appearances by G-Eazy, Yung Bans, Global Chi, and additional guests.
