Raised in the quiet community of Bridgeville, Delaware, Lil West arrived in 1998 and spent his early years exploring online sources for fresh sounds that would later inform his own creations. Drawing from experimental pop structures, EDM textures, and the sparseness of trap, he constructed a self-contained sonic space that reflected those wide-ranging tastes. His willingness to blend styles openly led to work alongside the emo-rap outfit nothing, nowhere., while the same exploratory spirit crystallized further on the seven-track mixtape Vex, Pt. 1, issued in early 2019 and featuring appearances by Yung Bans and Tommy Genesis.

As a teenager the Delaware native began recording, translating his varied listening into the 2015 EP Indigo, where early-2000s hard-rock elements collided with brooding, drug-tinged rap deliveries. One cut, “Soon to Be,” reached Rich the Kid, who supplied a remix the following year. Momentum built quickly: Lil West joined 21 Savage for the 2016 single “WYM,” then released the full-length effort LW17 in 2017. That same year he added a short verse to nothing, nowhere.’s “REM,” appeared on JUDGE’s “Promise,” and scattered additional standalone tracks. Throughout 2018 he continued sharpening his unorthodox approach, dropping fresh material whenever inspiration arrived.
