Drawing from the lineage of Memphis rap forebears, Pooh Shiesty channeled a menacing allure and commanding delivery into lyrics steeped in conflict and force. While still unsigned, the artist generated substantial streaming figures and visual plays that prompted Southern rap figurehead Gucci Mane to secure him for the major-label imprint 1017. Ahead of his official debut album Shiesty Season in 2021, several of his singles registered on the charts. The following year he issued the expanded edition Shiesty Season: Certified.

Born Lontrell Williams into a household centered on music—his father having worked as a rapper and label head—the young artist displayed an early inclination toward the craft. While still attending high school he established Choppa Gang, refining his technique through informal freestyle sessions with peers. After a brief period residing with his mother in Texas, he returned to Memphis, completed his studies at age 18, and devoted himself entirely to recording. Tracks issued under the Pooh Shiesty name first circulated online in 2018, yet his breakthrough arrived in 2019 via the song “Shiesty Summer,” which amassed millions of streams and video views.

Gucci Mane reached out in 2020 and promptly added him to the roster on the strength of those independent releases. Shiesty appeared prominently across multiple cuts on the label’s 2020 showcase project Gucci Mane Presents: So Icy Summer, among them the remix of his single “Main Slime” that incorporated guest verses from Tay Keith and Moneybagg Yo. Additional 2020 tracks such as “Monday to Sunday” with Lil Durk and Big30, “Twerksum,” and “Back in Blood” again featuring Lil Durk each surpassed a million streams. He further contributed guest verses to recordings by Foogiano, Hotboii, SpotemGottem, and numerous contemporaries.

Opening 2021 with the singles “Guard Up” and “Neighbors” alongside Big30, both later included on his debut full-length Shiesty Season, the rapper assembled a project that also showcased appearances from Gucci Mane, 21 Savage, Foogiano, and additional guests. Issued that February, the album reached number two on the hip-hop chart and number three on the Billboard 200. In April 2022 the deluxe iteration Shiesty Season: Certified followed, adding ten tracks highlighted by the song “Certified” featuring Gunna.
