As a teenager in 2020, melodic rapper and singer StaySolidRocky broke into the Top 40 with the love-stoned ballad "Party Girl," the hit single from his debut EP, Fallin'.

Born Darak Figueroa in San Antonio, Rocky had settled in Richmond, Virginia, by his early teens. He began freestyling in high school and soon developed a modest Instagram following. A 2019 clip of him performing a segment of "Party Girl" drew enough interest that he completed the track, produced by Nashi, posted the full version to SoundCloud, and financed a YouTube video. After linking with Solomon Sobande, an artist manager and freelance A&R who had previously worked with XXXtentacion, Rocky secured a major-label deal with Columbia. Columbia released the tracks "Soft Aggression" and "Toxic" in March and April 2020—the latter co-written by Sobande—before reissuing "Party Girl." The song gained traction among TikTok users, entered the Billboard Hot 100 in May, and reached the Top 40 by the end of that month. It peaked at number 21 and appeared on the July-issued Fallin' EP.
