Biography
Comprising the Canadian duo Young Bombs are Martin Kottmeier and Tristan Norton, who first earned recognition through remix work before shifting focus to original songwriting and production. During the 2010s the pair delivered anthemic yet atmospheric reworkings for Carly Rae Jepsen, Selena Gomez, Christina Aguilera, Billie Eilish, and dozens more, drawing on trap and tropical house while maintaining an unabashedly gleeful tone laced with melancholy and youthful flair. Once they had established themselves as sought-after remixers and performed at major festivals including Lollapalooza and Ultra Music Festival, Young Bombs issued their first original tracks in 2019, beginning with “Starry Eyes.”
Both members hail from Vancouver, where they became best friends during high school and later joined songwriter Tobias Jesso Jr. in the indie rock band the Sessions. That group formed in 2005, claimed victory at the international Emergenza battle of the bands contest in 2006, released the EP The Sessions Is Listed as In a Relationship, and toured North America before disbanding in 2008. Several years afterward Kottmeier and Norton launched Young Bombs; their remixes for Galantis and Cazzette surfaced in 2014. The mixes quickly built an online audience, prompting further reworkings for Kelly Clarkson, Tinashe, Troye Sivan, and additional artists. The duo soon opened for the Chainsmokers, Diplo, and Alesso, appeared at festivals, and staged their own headlining shows. Young Bombs resumed releasing original material in 2019 with “Starry Eyes,” followed shortly by “Don't Let Them.”
