Young Scooter, born Kenneth Edward Bailey, first gained notice through a string of mixtapes built around his improvisational, off-the-cuff style; although he often appeared alongside major-label rappers, he consistently declined to sign with any label himself. Walterboro, South Carolina, was his birthplace, yet he spent his formative years in Atlanta alongside a childhood acquaintance who would later record as Future. Scooter launched his own tape series in 2011, and by the following year those projects regularly included guest spots from Future, Gucci Mane, and Waka Flocka Flame. Also in 2012, the track “Columbia” emerged as his strongest single to date. Street Lottery, issued in 2013, marked a further leap, earning placement on multiple year-end roundups and accumulating hundreds of thousands of downloads. By the close of 2016 he had put out more than a dozen releases—chiefly on his own Black Migo Gang imprint—and had contributed to more than twice that number of tracks fronted by Gucci Mane, E-40, and Young Thug. The 2017 project Jugg King stood out in part for its Future-assisted cut “Can’t Play Around.” Trippple Cross arrived in early 2018 as Scooter’s debut full-length album and once again featured Future and Young Thug. Later that year he joined Yung Bans and Gunna for the single “New Hunnids,” which landed on the subsequent release The Recipe. Following the 2019 mixtape Trap Hero, he continued the Street Lottery series with Street Lottery Reloaded. In late 2020 he paired with Zaytoven for the joint effort Zaystreet.
