Emerging from the Memphis scene with a raw, experience-driven approach, Finesse2tymes crafted his early rhymes in the closing years of the 2010s while sharing stages and sessions with peers Moneybagg Yo and Blac Youngsta. He first drew widespread notice through the 2019 mixtape Hustle & Flow. Following the end of an incarceration period, the artist reentered the industry in 2022 by inking a deal with Mob Ties and issuing the Billboard-charting mixtape 90 Days; two years later he unveiled his initial studio album, Art of War.

Born Ricky Hampton and raised on the East Side of Memphis, he encountered legal difficulties early in life. After serving an initial term behind bars at age 14, he turned to documenting his path through music, releasing hard-edged recordings with associates that included Moneybagg Yo and Blac Youngsta; together the trio established the Memphis Greatest Underrated collective. During 2019, while Hampton was incarcerated on a federal weapons charge, the group issued its self-titled EP. That same year also brought solo efforts from Finesse2tymes, notably the mixtapes Hustle & Flow and Goin' Straight In. He maintained creative output and industry ties throughout his confinement, securing an offer from Mob Ties CEO J Prince Jr. by the time of his early-2022 release.

He moved swiftly into new collaborations, linking with Moneybagg Yo for “Black Visa,” DaBaby for “Luv N Hip-Hop,” and Gucci Mane for “Gucci Flow.” Standout solo releases such as “Get Even” and “Back End” also gained traction, several of which appeared on the December 2022 mixtape 90 Days. That project featured Tay Keith and Lil Baby, entering the Billboard 200 at number 57 in its opening week. A deluxe edition titled 90 Days Later, expanded by six additional tracks and guest spots from Kevin Gates, 2 Chainz, and Nardo Wick, arrived the next year. Late in 2024, Mob Ties and Atlantic presented the full-length debut Art of War, a 22-track set that included DaBaby, GloRilla, and Rick Ross, along with the single “Miami with the Heat” featuring Kodak Black and Luh Tyler.
