RMR first appeared during 2020 through the eclectic country-rap ballad “Rascal,” where the anonymous artist directs his vocal abilities toward the melodic dimensions of trap. His opening release took the form of the EP Drug Dealing Is a Lost Art, which arrived in June of that year.

Concealing his identity behind a balaclava, the masked musician stepped forward in February 2020 with the eccentric “Rascal,” an offbeat partial reinterpretation of Rascal Flatts’ “Bless the Broken Road” whose imagery centers on street life. After the debut single gained viral traction, he issued the more emotive “Dealer” the next month and brought in Future and Lil Baby for its remix. The same June brought his first EP, Drug Dealing Is a Lost Art, which added contributions from Young Thug and Westside Gunn. Embracing the focused sing-rap manner of contemporaries such as Rod Wave and Don Toliver, the project contained four new tracks, a Young Thug-assisted remix of “Rascal,” and all of RMR’s singles up to that point.
